ABOUT OUR OWNER AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Doug Cohn was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later attended the Graduate Business School at both the University Of Chicago and Southern Methodist University. After serving two years in the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Doug joined Trane and completed the Company's six month Graduate Training Program. Doug was a sales engineer in Trane's Chicago Sales Office and a departmental sales manager in its Dallas Sales Office prior to be named the Franchise Holder for Tampa Bay Trane on November 15, 1969. Doug is married and he and his wife, Maureen, live in the Beach Park area of Tampa. Doug is a Registered Profession Engineer, a LEED Accredited Professional and a member of ASHRAE.
ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Jay Allison, P.E., was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He is a graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation from Northwestern, Jay formed a consulting engineering firm that specialized in bus transportation planning and engineering services to local governments. He was then a Senior Business Analyst for GD Searle evaluating acquisitions and divestitures prior to joining the Trane in 1978.
Jay was a member of Trane's residential equipment division and served as the Sales Manager for the company-owned Distribution Center in Orlando, Florida. He was promoted to Distribution Center Manager in 1980 and held that position until joining Tampa Bay Trane in 1982. Initially Jay was responsible for Tampa Bay Trane's Parts and Services businesses. He held positions of continually increasing responsibility and was made President and Chief Operating Officer in 2002. Jay and his wife Gail have 6 children and live in Tierra Verde at the Southern tip of Pinellas County. He is a Registered Profession Engineer, a member of ASHRAE and past President of the Tampa Bay Chapter of BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association).
Our Trane Territory:
As Trane's agent, our Franchise Territory consists of 13 counties on the West Coast of Florida. These counties include, Hillsborough, Pinellas, Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Highland, Manatee, Sarasota, Hardee, Polk, Pasco, Hernando and Desoto. and covers the following major cities: Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota, Ft. Myers, Naples, Lakeland and Brooksville.
Trane Residential Products:
Trane products for residential applications are accessed through Trane Dealers who are customers of Trane's Tampa-based Dealer Sales Office which is totally separate from Tampa Bay Trane. Our Trane Parts Centers do provide wholesale-only warranty and non-warranty parts support to Trane Dealers and other residential servicers.
About Our Locations and Facilities
Initially, the Tampa sales office was located in 700 square feet of office space on South Macdill Avenue which easily accommodated the then six employees. In 1972, a move was made to 3,000 square feet of a new 5,000 square foot building at 902 North Himes. Growth of the business caused the office to expand to the entire building in 1978. By 1984 it looked as if the office would have to be relocated because of continued increases in the organization's staff. Fortunately additional land was acquired and a 15,000 square foot two story addition was completed in 1985.
The first local remote Trane HVAC Parts & Supplies Location was opened in 1992 at 3911 West Cypress. Additional sites were added in Pinellas County on U.S. Highway 19 South at 118th street in 1996, in Ft. Myers at 6461 Topaz Court in 1997, and in Naples at 544 Commercial Boulevard in 2007. A Pasco County Parts Center opened for business in January 2008 and a larger Trane HVAC Parts and Supplies facility was needed in Sarasota and that opened in March 2008.
The Ft. Myers sub-office was opened in the fall of 1997 in Ft. Myers, Florida. This facility is staffed by New Systems Solutions and Existing Building Sales Engineers, Field Service Engineers, Controls and Contracting Staff and a complete and well stocked Trane HVAC Parts & Supplies Location as well as a 40 person training facility.
Further expansion of the Himes facilities took place in 1999 with the acquisition of additional real estate to the West of the original building. A covered parking area was added that also serves as an outdoor pavilion for equipment displays and customer events. Six thousand feet of storage area was also provided by this expansion. Parking for a total of over 125 vehicles can now be accommodated at the Himes Street facility.

Since Tampa Bay Trane was founded in 1969 our goal has been to provide for the growing needs of our owner, consulting engineer and installing contractor customers. Initially our capabilities centered on supporting the sale of Trane equipment. Over the years our offering has grown so that we can now deliver needed skills for digital temperature control systems, start up and first year warranty service, maintenance agreements of many types, operator training, system energy analysis, replacements, retrofits, and repair contracting, 24x7x365 emergency services, rental equipment, performance contracting and HVAC system on-site operations. We’re ready to help you.
- Sells and supports Trane's complete air conditioning product offering for commercial applications from 1.5 to 4,000 tons.
- Is the area representative for certain Non-Trane HVAC products that support and enhance the sale of Trane commercial HVAC products.
- Offers digital controls system design, installation service, programming, start up and on going support services for Trane Tracer Summit controls systems as well as providing integration capabilities for competitive controls systems.
- Provides certain HVAC equipment and system start-up service for Trane products in addition to providing maintenance contracts, and repair services for Trane and all competitive commercial HVAC products.
- Provides on-site facilities personnel or provides remote virtual support services to remotely operate customer's HVAC Systems.
- Engages in certain construction management services for the repair, replacement and retrofit of Trane and competitive HVAC Systems.
- In conjunction with Trane offers guaranteed energy saving Performance Contracts which comply with laws passed by the Florida Legislation. These agreements allow dollars saved in utility cost to be used to pay for the capital required to replace or upgrade energy-consuming equipment such as HVAC equipment and lights.
- Is responsible for the local inventory and wholesale-only distribution of warranty and non-warranty repair parts and supplies for Trane and competitive HVAC products through our six Trane HVAC Parts & Supplies.
- Offers extensive local training programs for its customers on Trane HVAC Systems and components as well as for the many other HVAC product lines and we represent and issues of interest to members of our industry.
About the Corporation:
As an independent corporation there are no boundary limitations on where Tampa Bay Trane conducts its business. However, we chose to our focus our considerable resources on serving our customers of Florida's West Coast.
While the Company is known as Tampa Bay Trane, its legal name is Tampa Bay Systems Sales, Inc, and this is the title block that is used when executing legal documents. Tampa Bay Trane's business transactions are legally independent of the business of Trane except where TBT performs certain start up and maintenance services and parts warranties as Trane's agent for new Trane products.
